Red Car Trolley Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

The 2011 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is flat-out striking. A gorgeous bouquet laced with matchstick, lemon oil, crushed rocks and mint emerges from this dazzling, crystalline Chardonnay. Clean, bracing and impeccably balanced, the 2011 impresses for its length and persistence. This finely sculpted wine is a jewel. Wow! Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.

奇抜さ（失礼）、希少さに関して言えばなんといってもあのシン・クア・ノン。そしてプチ・シン・クア・ノンと言われるオリン・スウィフト。オリン・スウィフトと共に次世代ローヌ・レンジャーの筆頭に挙げられるのが本日ご紹介の「レッド・カー」です。初の日本正規入荷です。

「レッド・カー」は、マーク・エストリンとキャロル・ケンプによって２０００年に設立されました。２人は共にハリウッドで活躍。マークはスクリーン・ライター、キャロルはフィルム・プロデューサーでした。ハリウッドからの引退後の２０００年に僅か５０ケースのシラーを造り、レッド・カーを立ち上げました。このシラーはパソ・ロブレス、サンタ・マリア・ヴァレーからのシラーで、シャトー・マルゴーのために造られた樽で熟成されました。ロバート・パーカーからいきなり９０点を獲得し、鮮烈なデビューを飾りました。

（残念ながらマーク・エストリンは病のため２００５年に５７歳という若さでこの世を去りました。）

レッド・カーの意図は単純明快です。レッド・カーは誰が飲んでも美味しいワインを造りたいという一心で始まりました。古典的醸造法に最新の技術を取り入れた、斬新なキャラクターとオリジナリティーを持つワイン、素晴らしい葡萄からの素晴らしいワインを造ることに専念します。現在はソノマ・コーストらしさを表現できる畑を厳選しています。

レッド・カーのワインは３つのカテゴリーに分けられます。「BOXCAR」「TROLLEY」「RESERVE」です。本日ご紹介のワインはワイナリー名を象徴する「トロリー」です。ワイナリー名は１９６０年代初頭からロサンゼルス市内を走った思い出の電気トロリー「レッド・カー」にちなみ名付けられました。まさにワイナリーのフラッグシップと言えるワインです。

リリースされるワインのほとんどが僅か数百ケース。メーリング・リストの顧客への販売が主で、市場に出回ることはありません。そんな希少なレッド・カーが今回日本へ正規入荷となりました。

Carroll Kemp left a career in the film industry to focus on his passion for making wine. Kemp focuses mostly on cooler-climate sites and tends to pick on the early side. The wines are made with native yeasts in a style that emphasizes juiciness and approachability, but also structure. – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #199 –

Red Car Trolley Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

レッド・カーは２０１０年に初めてシャルドネを生産しました。この１１年が２度目のリリースになります。

葡萄の出所は２０１０年と同じです。ウイリアムズ・セリエムで有名なホーク・ヒル Hark Hill （４８％）、オベール、レミー、ポール・ホッブスで有名なリッチー Ritchie（３２％）、そしてZephyr Farms （２０％）から。フレンチオーク（１２％新樽）にて１２ヶ月熟成。生産量は僅か３０８ケースです。コテコテさのない、ナチュラルでバランスのとれた果実味です。

以下２０１０年のコメントです・・・

In 2010, we were able to source fruit from the Ritchie and Hawk Hill Vineyards for our 2010 Trolley Chardonnay. Ritchie has been immortalized by a number of well-known winemakers such as David Ramey, Mark Aubert and Paul Hobbs. The Hawk Hill Vineyard is only slightly less renowned, produced to great acclaim by Williams-Selyem, among others. The grapes were harvested at low sugars, immediately whole cluster pressed and fermented in mostly neutral French oak. The wine also reflects the 2010 vintage, which was the coldest in two decades. The wine is racy with acidity and powerfully concentrated, with low alcohol and high palate impact. Taste: Lemon peel, narcissus, apple blossom, flint. (winemaker’s notes)

★レッド・カー　トロリー　シラー　ソノマ・カウンティ　２００８　￥４，６２０　ＷＡ８８　ＩＷＣ９１

２０００年僅か５０ケースのシラーで始まったレッド・カー。レッド・カーを代表する品種です。

葡萄は、５６％ヴィヴィオ Vivio、３１％ジオ・トニー Zio Tony、８％フォーリー Foley、５％ラリー・ハイド＆サンズ Hyde & Sons、から。超一流畑のオン・パレードです。フレンチオーク（４５％新樽）にて１９ヶ月熟成です。生産量は９６９ケースです。華やかでジューシー。スパイスやアーシーさも感じられます。

辛口評論家タンザーが９１点を付けました。

The 2008 Trolley Syrah showcases concentrated fruit with balanced, classy restraint. Quintessential blackberry, black pepper and grilled meat aromas are joined by nuances like coffee, sandalwood and clove. The seamless mid-palate and integrated finish package the blackberry and brown spice flavors neatly in finely grained tannins. Nothing is out of place in this elegant Syrah which drinks great now but will also age. (winemaker’s notes)

The 2008 Syrah Trolley ia a juicy, exuberant wine loaded with fruit. I don’t see a lot of varietal character here, but this is nevertheless attractive. The fruit was sourced from Vivio, Zio Tony, Foley and Hyde. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #199 –

Red Car Trolley Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

ローヌ・レンジャーのレッド・カーは２００７年から僅かなピノ・ノワールを生産しています。この１０年が４度目のリリースになります。

レッド・カーはソノマ・コースト北部のフォート・ロスに自社畑を持ちます。フォート・ロスはマーカシン、マルティネリ、フラワーズなどが畑を持つソノマ・コーストの一等地です。２００５年に植樹。ピノ・ノワールとシラーが植えられ、ピノ・ノワールのクローンは７７７、８２８、カレラです。自社畑の葡萄は上級のリザーブ・ワインに使用されます。

レッド・カーの２０１０年ピノ・ノワールは、３４％ボヘミアン・ステーション Bohemian Station、３３％バイビー Bybee、２３％フォルスタッフ Falstaff、５％バルトロメイ Bartolomei 、５％プラット Platt から供給されました。フレンチオーク（５５％新樽）にて１１ヶ月熟成。生産量は５７２ケースです。ほんのりと甘味と旨味を持ちながら、綺麗に仕上げられた果実味です。

Our Trolley Pinot Noir is always more an expression of a vintage than a particular vineyard, and this 2010 version is no exception. The 2010 vintage was the coldest on record in the Sonoma Coast, too cold for some later ripening varietals but ideal for Pinot Noir, which achieves its greatest heights in cool years. With focused fruit balanced by ephemeral earthy undertones, this wine lives up to the extraordinary potential of this unusual vintage. (winemaker’s notes)

The 2010 Pinot Noir is a fabulous wine. It boasts considerable energy and focus from start to finish. Dark red cherries, mint, minerals and spices are some of the many nuances that flow from this beautifully delineated wine. Saline notes frame the long, nuanced finish. I can hardly wait to taste the single-vineyard Pinots. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #199 –
